West Chester, PA - Lancaster City FC geared up for their first game of the Spring season against reigning league champions West Chester United on Sunday afternoon. Through rain, wind and a torrent of attacks from the West Chester side, LCFC made the drive home after a 7-1 defeat.
First half action saw us hold the home team to two goals on the wet pitch. The team defended properly as a unit and managed to keep the high powered West Chester at bay for the first 20 minutes. The breakthrough came 25 minutes in with West Chester going ahead on a low finish. LCFC pressed creating their own chance minutes later and kept the game tight for a while longer. West Chester scored again with only minutes remaining in the first half to go up 2-0 on a multiple deflection shot.
The second half was one to forget for the brick city boys with 5 goals finding the back of the net for the home side. Despite pressing hard to get a few goals back with Kody Eberly, Lance Gaspar, and Chris Sosa all putting numerous shots towards goal, LCFC were only able to come away with 1 as Chris Sosa took a cross from Zach Oster down and volleyed it home for our first goal of the spring.
We look to bounce back and get on the winning track in two weeks when we play host to the Ukranian Nationals on April 11th at home.
